Bike Lights

Picking the correct bike light for your riding style can be complicated due to the shear amount of options available in the market. Read on and hopefully we can help make your decision easier.

We break lights into two categories, to be seen and to see.
For urban environments with well lit streets the rider is more at risk from others and thus requires a lighting system that will help other road users see them to avoid accidents. Riders in this situation should look to get bike lights with a lower lumen rating, fixed or flashing on the front, and red flashing for the rear. If you are to select a front light that offers higher output, ensure you purchase a light that has options to switch to a lower output as this will save drivers from getting annoyed and will help save the battery life to boot.

For darker roads and off-road riding, we recommend getting a front bike light that will illuminate as much of the road or track as possible within your budget, combine this with a red flashing light with a lower lumen rating for the rear. We recommend this solution as it offers the rider the ability to see upcoming obstacles and provide enough reaction time to ensure they do not hit them. Keep in mind the faster you go the further down the road or track you will need to see in order to have enough reaction time to stay safe.
Battery powered or battery free options? Battery powered lights offer high levels of lumen output, however this requires constant charging to ensure peak levels of performance. While battery free bike lights are better suited to commuters that require a hassle-free light that will always be operating and requires little maintenance.
